Read-alouds for ELL students
I have been doing some research on read alouds and the impact it has on ELL students. I've learned that it's a very valuable practice that can be done starting since pre-Kindergarten all the way up to Middle school. ELL students will benefit through read-alouds by exposing them to a wider variety of books than they would choose on their own, bridge the gap between oral and written language, can help develop the appreciation for literature that is above their own reading level, gives access to rich vocabulary and new sentence structures, and exposes them to good literature across the genres. (Gunderson, Hayes, Zisselsberger, 2007). If you are more interested in the research that Gunderson, Hayes, and Zisselsberger's did please visit this website: ReadAloudHandbook
